Ferrandou has its own swimming pool in the garden, which is very welcome throughout the hot summer months, and a shady terrace with magnificent views over the valley.

This area of the Dordogne is one of the most beautiful in France and there are many interesting and beautiful sights to visit, including the hilltop village of Turenne with its abbey, the ancient medieval village of Carennac, and the picturesque square in the little town of Bretenoux. Slightly further afield are the famous red buildings of Collonges-la-Rouge, ancient Rocamadour perched on the side of cliffs, the prehistoric caves of Padirac, and wine-tasting in the beautiful town of Cahors.

There are plenty of opportunities for enjoying the local food and exploring the countryside. The courses are well-established in the region and local residents are very well disposed to the music making and student activities. Puybrun, the nearest and friendliest village (20 minutes walk from Ferrandou), has a supermarket, two bars, a restaurant, fishing tackle shop, two astonishing boulangeries, a Post Office and church, all built around the village square ... and not a traffic warden in sight!

The weather can be extremely hot in July and August and storms are sometimes quite dramatic, if brief! Mosquito repellent is sometimes advisable in the evenings.

We've found the area so wonderfully conducive to hard work in a relaxed, unpolluted atmosphere, and this, coupled with the warmth of welcome from the local residents, makes for the ideal environment for the Ferrandou Summer Singing School.
